Another audition for EY I guess. Thought maybe we could see Wheeler. Oh well.

Audition for the Rockies, or audition for the trading deadline? I hope he does great and some team overpays us for him. It’s always the same issue: I think that EY will be a decent major league hitter (.275ish), and he will steal bases, but he’s not a second baseman and in Coors Field he’s not a great outfielder. But he may be OK as an AL DH or playing in a ballpark with a smaller outfield.

I would like to see the team give Garner more ABs, but that may happen in September. I would also like to see Wheeler and Beerer get some ABs in September.

Hopefully an audition for other teams. However, if he does great we’ll end up making him an everyday starting OF, then he’ll come back down to earth, he’ll get sent down to AAA 1 month into the season next year, we’ll call him back up, we’ll see he can’t play a lick, and then we’ll dump him for peanuts. You know, standard operating procedure for this club.

HERE WE GO ERIC!!!! MAKE DADDY PROUD THIS TIME!!! I can’t wait to say I told you so when this guy starts ripping it up!! BTW Rocketman, this is Pooter!!

  • Favre | July 22, 2011 | 6:09 pm

I’m going to see Horrible Bosses tonight so won’t get to watch the game live. I hope he gets more than 5 starts to show what he has this time!

What position will EY play? Certainly Ellis earned his role as 2B? Or are we going to flip Ellis? Normally I would think Fowler Spilly Smith as the 3 OF, but you never know with the way we like to call up AAA or AA guys to start over Spilly. Poor Spilly. If he was on most other teams he would play 3-4 times a week.

“But he [EY] may be OK as an AL DH…”

Julian, EY will never be a good enough hitter, or the kind of hitter to be a DH. I mean that position is meant for a player who really cant do anything but hit, and hit for power at that. When is the last time you saw a lead off hitter as the DH? The bottom line is EY is not a very good hitter or defender. But he sure is fast. Not sure what the Rox infatuation with him is. Meh.

Prog, i would hate to see Ellis ousted from 2b. Don’t think that would be wise at all. I cant really see EY getting many (if any) starts. So I’d say Spilly, Smith, Dex will be the OF.

I’m interested to see how the team does on this trip. Who knows…maybe they’ll surprise us all.

And I’d like to remind everyone to savor every game, no matter how bleak things seem. After all, when its January and all you can do is read the same 3 articles about possible type B FA signings, your going to be wishing you had some mediocre Rox baseball to watch…

    Go Rox

They probably called him up so he could spend time with daddy.

Why are we such a bad base running team?

  • miketober | July 22, 2011 | 8:42 pm

Timo, your first comment is so spot on it makes me laugh.

  • miketober | July 22, 2011 | 8:43 pm

Oops, I meant your second comment.

  • progmatinee | July 22, 2011 | 10:30 pm

I think Fowler has more total bases in his last 5 games than Stewart has all season.

I could have done my taxes in the time it took Betancourt to get through the 9th inning.

Smith plays rightfield like the Avalanche goalies the past few years. Everything gets by him.

I too was disappointed not to see Wheeler get the call but I think you all are right, this is an audition for EYJR to be part of a deal, probably part of a package. All I can think about is if EY had been healthy this offseason we would have Michael Young manning 3B, with his great stats, good D, and this team might have been able to survive the early season struggles of Tulo and CarGo. Arggh. Maybe he can be packaged to get someone like David Wright.

  • JamesE | July 28, 2011 | 7:20 pm

Doubtfull any team will over pay for EY but he could be packaged.

Problem the Rockies have is they have alot of stuff to dump or at least begin to use properly. Getting cute with starting a player once a week if that and only pinch hitting him isn’t going to improve his trade value. Play him everyday, send him down or trade him flat out.

I have to laugh at the possibility of the Rockies getting David Wright. Wouldn’t matter their interest in him as they would never send the level of talent others do to obtain a player like right.

The rockies need to fix the top of the order. Not good having CarGo batting leadoff. Not that he can’t but that isn’t where his bat is most effective. Having Cargo and Tulo back to back is powerfull all early season slumps aside.

Get rid of Wiggy who is a liability in the field and only has about 6 weeks of usefullness this season anyway. Play or trade EY and don’t trade Jimenez unless you have real concerns about his health.

    IMO of course
