Steve or Jack,
Will Alex White maintain his rookie status for next year if the Rox keep his innings count under 35? He had 15 inn. with the Indians earlier in the season, so if he pitches less than 35 inn. with Colorado he’ll still be below the 50 innings rookie threshold. Not sure what the rule is for being on the MLB roster for a season and still maintain rookie status even though he was on the 60-day DL.
Cisco,
This is a good question, however other than rookie of the year, why should this matter?
Does rookie status (50 inningss) also effect when White would become eligible for arbitration? Or to say that another way if he burns his rookie year in 2011, will that become one less year from the Rockies control through arbitration.
Didnt they get rid of the Super 2 or was that part of the next collective bargaining. I think that would matter with White, but do not underestimate the importance of a team having a ROY candidate…especially after as disappointing a year as this has been. Remember, White and our “player to be named later” have to pick up the excitment that would have been there from Ubaldo. Trade CY Young votes for ROY votes, and save money in this deal? Could be worthwhile.
Just finished reading Troy Renck on the DBacks in today’s DP, and it is for me quite encouraging. The DBacks were horrible last year (especially in the pen). They last year did what we did with Ubaldo, dealing a true #1 (Haren), as well as other pieces. And now this team that I still am not sure is that good can be competing for 1st place. Gibson has a lot to do with it – bringing accountability to the team. But with the right attitude, a few key acquisitions (like White and “player to be named later”) there is no reason the Rox cannot be back in contention next year. Alas, I am not sure current whether Tracy and Co can create an accountability environment. But there is hope.
Doc, I think a big contibutor to the Dbacks current success is their .384 with the bases loaded. I’m not a Dbacks fan but I feel bad for Jason Marquis.

Sorry Doctor C, but I have very little hope as long as Tracy is making out the lineup card.
