Colorado Rockies minor-leaguer Mike Jacobs has received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for Human Growth Hormone (HGH), a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Jacobs, 30, has played in parts of six major-league seasons with the New York Mets, Florida Marlins and Kansas City Royals and is hitting .298 with 23 home runs and 97 RBI at Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Rockies announced in a statement that the organization has released Jacobs.

Who’s going to play 1B for CS for the rest of the season? Maybe it’s a chance to give Pacheco some time there. Can Cantu play 1B?

I thought his head looked abnormally large!!!! You know that’s what he was on when he had success with the Marlins. Must have laid off once he played for the Royals and then recently decided he wanted another crack at the big leagues.

Too bad he made the choice. I’m happy they are testing for this now, I hope they catch everyone. The game is a much better game now that they’ve started to eliminate steroids.

rockies are too worried about character and not results, get people who win damn — not saying this guy would of helped but just this is an example of their weak philosophy

Sorry, Anonymous, but releasing him immediately was exactly the right thing to do.

30 year old journeymen cheaters are the right kind of players?

  • Agbayani | August 18, 2011 | 4:17 pm

Not to worry, Mike Jacobs. The Monforts are all about giving admitted (read: caught) PED users a second chance. J.C. Romero and Jason Giambi will direct you to a nearby 12-step program.

splitmaple, I did forget about Herges. And he was juicing while he was a Rockie …

progmatie, the right kind of players are the ones who produce, too many “club house” guys on this team, get some players who would do anything to win.

Hey Anon, cheating is so 90′s and 00′s. We’re in a good era of baseball again, post-PEDs. You may be right about the clubhouse mix, but drugs won’t make a team that I want to watch.

LOL. “do anything to win”…because Manny Ramirez is really doing a lot for the Dodgers organization right now. He’s still on their payroll, by the way.

I don’t disagree about needing a few more independent characters or more competitive players, but cheaters? Gimme a break.
