Pomeranz undergoes emergency appendectomy

Left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz, who took a perfect game into the seventh inning in his debut in the Colorado Rockies organization Wednesday at Double-A Tulsa, had an emergency appendectomy Saturday.

The team said Pomeranz is resting and is expected to be released form the hospital Sunday.

Pomeranz was expected to soon follow Alex White, who will start for the Rockies on Tuesday, and join the starting rotation as the season winds down. The time off for recovery from the surgery, though, may put an end his season.

My heart nearly stopped when I read Pomeranz and emergency in the same sentence.

Looks like we’ll have to wait until next year to see Mr. Pomeranz pitch with the Rox.

Well, at least it didnt rupture. Too bad, would have been nice to see the kid get to have his first start gitters out of the way in September.

it does seem a little bit, “when it rains it pours” but, in the end it probably just saves wear and tear for future years instead of this dreadful year.

In the future when the Rox have bad luck, we’ll all know exactly what is meant when somebody says, “does this remind you of 2011?”. What a year!

Glad it’s not career-threatening and, you’re right, Dr. Christopher, it will save some wear and tear on a young kid’s arm.

Man, it sure seems like it’s been “raining” for almost two solid years here in the land of the Colorado Rockies! Last year it seemed like we had to grind through a ton of injuries, which made us run out of steam the final two weeks. And I don’t need to remind everyone of what we’ve witnessed with this year’s team. Hopefully we’ve paid our dues to the baseball Gods, and we can start having some things fall our way in the near future.

My thoughts are with Drew during this time.

Interesting to note, UJ was chased early in his game against Detroit, giving up 8 earned runs in 3 1/3.

Pomeranz and Ubaldo will be tied together by the trade for a long time in my mind.

Yeah they will tied together alright as UJ as a on half season wonder.

I had an appendectomy. It was hell for 3 days after but then I was right as rain. Of course I didn’t have to do anything athletic afterwards.

Also had an appendectomy, but sounds like he wasn’t ruptured as mine was. Big difference. He may have a chance to pitch this year still, but Rockies might want to be extra cautious. If he was a position player, that’s one thing, but abdomen can affect your whole body as it is the core. Don’t want this to lead to an elbow or shoulder injury. As a fan and one that’s also had this surgery, better to be safe than sorry.
