Rockies’ Gonzalez named NL Player of the Week
Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been named the National League Player of the week form Aug. 22-28.
Gonzalez, who extended his hitting streak to 15 games on Sunday, hit .481 (13-for-27) with an major-league-leading 10 RBI during the period. He was also tied for the most runs and tied for second with three home runs. He drove in a run in five of the six games.
The award is Gonzalez’s third in his career — he also won twice in 2010 — and the first Player of the Week award for a Rockies player this season.

Congrats, Cargo. Thats amazing that it took what almost the full season to get 1 player of the week award. I’m actually surprised Tulo’s tear in NY didn’t earn one.
You could argue that both CarGo and Tulo are putting up these big numbers during garbage time, but those two are truly outstanding players. Regardless of the team’s sorry record and dashed expectations, they never let up and are two of the most exciting players in the game.
Interesting, I don’t believe in garbage time for baseball, personally. Not like it is for basketball or football. In a league where only 1/4 of the teams make it to the playoffs I think most teams still play for pride at this point in the season.
