Second baseman Jesus Merchan was 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and a run scored. Catcher Jordan Pacheco doubled and drove in two runs. Starting pitcher Alan Johnson allowed nine runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Double-A Tulsa (L, 9-2 vs. NW Arkansas, box)
Starting pitcher Dan Houston allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings — both runs scoring in the seventh inning, the first of three straight innings the Drillers allowed three runs. Second baseman James Cesario was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and a stolen base. Third baseman Erik Wetzel was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run.
High Class-A Modesto (W, 6-5 vs. Visalia, box)
Shortstop Josh Rutledge and third baseman Nolan Arenado each hit solo home runs. For both, it was the third home run in four games, and for Arenado it was his 20th home run and 120th RBI. Left fielder Eliezer Mesa singled in the ninth to drive in the winning run. Catcher Dallas Tarleton was 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run. First baseman Kiel Roling was 2-for-4 with a run. Starting pitcher Parker Frazker allowed five runs (four earned) in six innings.
Low Class-A Asheville (W, 3-1 at Charleston, box)
Shorstop Cristhian Adames tripled and drove in two runs. Designated hitter Kyle Parker singled to drive in the Tourists’ other run and stole a base. Starting pitcher Peter Tago allowed one run on three hits, walked four and struck out one in 3 1/3 innings.
Short-Season Class-A Tri-City (W, 3-1 vs. Salem-Keizer, box)
Starting pitcher Chris Jenson allowed four hits and struck out eight in seven shutout innings. Left fielder Juan Crousset was 2-for-3 with and RBI and a run. Shortstop Taylor Featherston tripled and drove in two runs. Samuel Mende, the Rockies’ 31st-round pick in June, was 0-for-4 in his first game with the Dust Devils since being promoted from Casper.
Rookie Casper (L, 4-3 vs. Orem, box)
Center fielder David Kandilas was 2-for-4 with a run. Left fielder Francisco Sosa was 2-for-4. Starting pitcher Alex Gillingham allowed three runs (two earned) in 6 1/3 innings.
