Pomeranz pitches three perfect innings; will join Rockies
Left-hander Drew Pomeranz pitched three perfect innings Monday for Double-A Tulsa in his first start since undergoing an emergency appendectomy Aug. 20.
Pomeranz, 22, will join the Colorado Rockies on Tuesday, but manager Jim Tracy said he won’t be activated right away. Pomeranz could make his major league debut Sunday against the Cincinnai Reds at Coors Field. Jason Hammel would be scheduled to pitch that day after his start Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks. But Hammel is spot-starting because Jhoulys Chacin was pushed back due to illness and concerns about his workload. So it would be logical for the Rockies to give Pomeranz one extra day of rest and start Sunday.
Pomeranz, 22, threw 46 pitches, 31 strikes, against Northwest Arkansas with three strikeouts in his second start for the Drillers, who completed their season Monday with a 4-2 win. On Aug. 17, Pomeranz took a perfect game into the seventh against Midland. He allowed two hits in seven scoreless innings with no walks and four strikeouts while throwing 55 of 78 pitches for strikes.
The Rockies acquired Pomeranz and three other players from the Cleveland Indians in the July 31 deal for Ubaldo Jimenez. Pomeranz, the fifth player taken overall in the 2010 draft, was listed as a player to be named in the deal, because he couldn’t be acquired officially until one year after he signed his first professional contract. That anniversary date was Aug. 17.

Baseball America has done a detailed write-up, through a mailbag of Edwar Cabrera. Go check it out. A nice read. It talks of his prospect status.
Colorado Rockies Prospects Report
Michael, thanks for the update on Cabrera. Is the Prospect Report your site? If so, keep up the good work. I thought Cabrera was a harder thrower than the BA write-up suggests.
As for Jimenez: 7 starts in for the Indians, 3 of them really bad, a couple really good, the last 2 kind of so-so …
