Rockies add infield reinforcement with Gomez
The Colorado Rockies have recalled infielder Hector Gomez to provide another infielder with Troy Tulowitzki out of the lineup with a hip injury.
The 23-year-old shortstop, who was rated the Rockies’ 10th-best prospect by Baseball America before the season, hit .235 with 14 home runs and 50 RBI in 102 games at Double-A Tulsa. Injuries have cost Gomez significant playing time — he missed nearly the entire 2008 and 2010 season.
He was already on the Rockies’ 40-man roster.

I hope they let this kid play the last couple of weeks. The fact that we’ve went out and gotten a bunch of veterans to play our infield shows that we need infield help. Maybe this guy can do that. He’s got huge upside.
I hope he plays too. Maybe in the “big house” he’ll raise his level of play and finally meet the expectations the team has had for him.
