Rockies lineup vs. Padres, 9/20
Hector Gomez was again scratched with back spasms after batting practice. The Colorado Rockies’ lineup Tuesday against San Diego Padres right-hander Mat Latos:
LF Eric Young Jr.
2B Mark Ellis
CF Dexter Fowler
RF Seth Smith
1B Jordan Pacheco
3B Kevin Kouzmanoff
C Wilin Rosario
SS Tommy Field
SP Jhoulys Chacin

I’m going to Coors Field tonight. Interesting lineup to say the least especially with Smith batting cleanup. As long as Jordan Pacheco & Rosario is in the lineup, I’m ok going to watch the Bad News Bears play. Only ask for two small things to make it worth the price of admission: at least 10 hits and lose by no more than two runs or better.
What’s even more intereting than Smith hitting cleanup is Dexter hitting in the 3-hole!!! I think Tracy is trying to get fired!
This is second game in a week I’m going with my kids. We support the Rockies but didn’t pay to see skysox. I have a hard time with this lineup or $ players kept out when they tell reporters their not done for the season. Tracey is responsible to the fans as well. It stinks to pay big to see EY jr, fowler and kuz. Enough already! The young guns I understand but the retreads are just wrong.
Give fans a mix instead. See ya tonight. We may leave early for the first time.
EvergreenBill. I understand your frustration, but I would not throw Dex in as a retread.
you beat me to the reply Trip – i would for sure not put Dex in that mix…he is Legit and should be a starter – he’s earned it and, although he did stumble in the middle of the year, came back and came on strong…not to mention his Tulo-like streak of HR’s in a row…
EvergreenBill you can’t lump Dex in with EY Jr. And why would you dump on an Evergreen High School grad like Kouzmanoff. I rather see him than Wigginton any day. I spent this afternoon in Evergreen, my name is Bill but I am not EvergreenBill.
Definitely don’t like Dexter hitting in the 3 hole, even if its just to try things out. He needs to keep hitting in the same spot, he’s been having success.
Why not like Seth in the 4 hole? First of all, there are no other capable 4 hole hitters from this lineup. And second of all, people definitely don’t realize how good of a hitter he is. He hasn’t been given the opportunity to play every day which, to me, is unfortunate because he is undoubtedly capable of playing left field and hitting south paws.
I’m surprised by Pacheco and Rosario. They are playing alright, but still not sold on either one. Lots of upside though which is encouraging.
The Rockies off to an early deficit? Who could have predicted that?
Man if I was in Vegas I would be playing the Rockies to lose SOOOOOO hard right now.
Minor League Baseball in a Major League Stadium: catch the fever!
OK, help me out guys. So Tulo is hitting 1 for 12 against Laitos, and hasn’t hit in a game in a number of days. So, you put him in to pinch hit against Laitos. Of course, we know what happens, and hindsight is 20-20. But, wouldn’t the right call have been to pinch hit Giambi in that spot? Not that I’m down on Tracy or anything.
Fan Appreciation Week = 0-6 homestand.
Watched the whole thing for the first time in a while. Eh. A guy who’s 7-14 for the year goes 123 pitches against the best available talent in Purple. This is a sad sad ending to a season of disappointments. Not only did we get to see the air let out of the major league roster, but now we get to see that the best of the call ups are pretty marginal on the potential-meter. Sorry guys, but I’m not seeing anything that says 2012 has a basis for substantive improvement. The lack of depth in talent has been a big surprise for me, I thought we had a much richer talent pool.
Julian, I was asking the same thing. I know somebody on this site was saying that he didn’t thing those stats mean anything but I disagree. Less than 10 at-bats they might not mean much but 1 for 12 (now 1 for 13) means something. But this is the same Jim Tracy who rested Giambi after he hit four homers in two games because he didn’t want to get him tired.
I only watched the last few innings of this game and haven’t watched much of the past week or so because frankly they didn’t seem to care. At least tonight they seemed to have some fight in them and they made a game out of it. Rosario striking out on a ball at eye-level was disappointing but Heath Bell has done that to a lot of players. At least the Rockies were shut down by major league pitchers tonight.
Now I’m basically rooting against certain teams at the end of the season. I can’t stand Tony La Russa so I’m rooting against the Cards. And don’t like the Giants so I’m a fan of the Brewers, the Braves and the D-Backs. I know the Phillies are the best team in the NL but I would love to see the Brewers make it to the Series. They are a small-market team but have a owner and a GM who are not afraid to go out and get players to make a run for the playoffs. I’m not saying money is always the answer but money spent in the right way can make the difference. Rockies really have been afraid to go after big-time starters ever since they got burnt by Hampton and Danny N. (I won’t say that name). Isn’t it time to get over that?
Yeah, I’m gonna pull for the Brewers too. What a depressing end to the season for the 2nd year in a row. No one can convince me that this team — or it’s manager — has any drive to win whatsoever. Injuries don’t excuse going 0-6 at the once mighty Coors.
You’re right, Bill…but Hampton/Neagle fiascos provide a convenient excuse for not paying big money to any free agent, regardless of position.
Better to waste $8M combined on the likes of Wigginton and Lopez, I guess.
Seth Smith really stepped up tonight.
Back from the game. Once again the young guys played hard. I’m not gonna give kuz a pass because of his old zip code or a single. It’s time time for the Rockies to build on the pitchers we got for ubaldo and start looking for someone to fill 3rd and eventually first after Helton. I won’t pay to see Dexter try to hit from both sides or learn how to steal and run the bases. That’s for the springs. His one month tear with 5 homers ( 2 in one game) does not chane the facts. He hits 250 from both sides and Lou brock couldn’t teach him how to steal much less learn when to hold up. EY jr is not a big league player. He got his trip tonight and thrown out bat third early. He can’t bunt can’t move a runner and is the fastest non base stealer behind fowler. Goodbye already. Put ellis at second give Pacheco and Rosario time in the spring configure out who takes ianetta’s spot or can play third. Move wiggy, fowler spillsy ianetta and the gas can ( street) for whatever we can get. Dump lansford tracey and say bye bye to cook and hammels. If brothers has to go then so be it. You only get talent when you offer some in return. This team doesn’t need a face lift it needs lipo. Just watch the phillies the brew crew or the backs for goodness sakes. The fans should not be happy with waiting for the likes of Ian Stewart to bless coorsfield with some effort. My kids expect these guys to whiff! The core of tulo cargo and for one more year Helton/ giambi need some ballplayers not retreads and guys who have had years to develop. Lastly the young pitchers can take lesson from cagey veteran mill wood. Pitch with heart and expect the bats and gloves to get you 5 at coors!
