Rockies lineup vs. Giants, 9/28
The Colorado Rockies’ lineup Wednesday in the season finale against San Francisco Giants left-hander Eric Surkamp:
LF Eric Young Jr.
CF Dexter Fowler
2B Mark Ellis
3B Kevin Kouzmanoff
RF Seth Smith
C Jordan Pacheco
1B Ty Wigginton
SS Tommy Field
SP Drew Pomeranz

Goodbye to Ty Wigginton we hardly knew you and didn’t like what we saw.
Probably goodbye to Mark Ellis and Kevin Kouzmanoff.
Unlikely but possible goodbye to Seth Smith.
See you next September to Tommy Field.
At least Wiggy won’t be in right …that was painful
Taco games in 2010 – 37
Taco games in 2011 – 32
That research is 10 minutes of my life I can never get back
Please make it stop.
Go Rockies!
Eh, at least gotta get that in there for the last time this year…
I doubt that Field will start with the MLB club. I think he’ll get more playing time in AA (or maybe AAA, if they fix the Springs with a humidor). Herrera will be the super sub who can replace Tulo.
I won’t miss Wiggy for one minute (he does have an exceptional walk-up song). He was a complete bust given his numbers with RISP. I wonder what they’ll do with EYJr.
Now that we know who will be back (JT and the Gang), I wonder how long before we all start complaining about lineup shuffles and other curious calls? I hope that the manager realizes that stability in the coaching staff should be followed by stability on the team’s day to day lineup.
(I don’t really have any hope for this happening, it’s just a wish.)
Field is up due to Herrera injury. They knew he would be “challenged” at the plate. Give him every day playing at AA/AAA.
Wiggy, Spilly, maybe Kouz, one of the catchers and possibly Nelson could be gone either by trade/sent down. And let’s throw in EY2. Not going to get it ever done defensively and his less than stellar BA is not going to help the club.
Ellis needs to be signed as I have said a few times. 1 year plus option year would be well worth it.
Let’s retro back to spring training when we were trying to deal EY2 for Michael Young- he of the .338 BA for Texas. 20 20 hindsight I guess.
Get the Giants one more loss Rox!!!
I hope Ellis is back next year.
That is, I hope that DOD gets a big time upgrade at 2B, which he won’t, in which case I hope Ellis is back next year.
The pessimist in me says DOD won’t get anybody new at 3B either, so given the choice between Wiggy, Stewart, or the cashier at Helton’s, I’ll take Wiggy.
Why not have ey bunt in that situation in the 2nd? Our situational abs have been AWFUL all season and ey is a. A mediocre hitter at best and b. Really fast! Cause some havoc, make the defense make a tough play. Jt just hates the bunt it seems. Its inexplicable how he doesnt at least try to tailor his moves to suit his personele. Thats not Tulo at the plate. Its not Cargo, its not Helton. Its a guy who bats 240 and hasnt hit a homer sinse little league. BUNT!!!!!!!!!!
P.S. The cashier at Helton’s would be my second choice.
Happy day
Pacheco is starting to grow on me
I think Field will be in AAA but I think he’ll show enough to be a call up in September again. God forbid an injury to Tulo, but I think Gomez is the first SS that would be up.
Pomeranz looks (on Gameday at least) like he’s pitching a terrific game.
I think there may be a difference in kid gloves between Pomeranz and White. First sign of trouble they yank Pomeranz. White is forced to struggle through it.
Is it more the timing than anything or are they really being more delicate with Pomeranz.
I read somewhere that Brian Wilson, aka the Beard, is done for the year. So we won’t see him today if it’s close.
Yes, he was until the sixth. And Lindstrom, who has had a terrible season, was called on to retire an RH hitter, and couldn’t, giving up a two-run single to DeRosa. So instead of giving Pomeranz a good line of 5 2/3 with only one run to finish with, it’s three runs because of yet another Lindstrom failure.
But not to worry, just like Wigginton, O’Dowd had the brilliant perspicacity to sign Lindstrom for two years, so he’ll be back. As, it seems, will most of the players and all the coaches from this disastrous, spirit-sapping season.
Runner on 3rd with 1 out. Time for a couple of K’s.
I sure hope Pacheco is given a full shot next year. I would not mind platooning him with Stewart. He’s hitting .390 vs LH…small sample I know.
Happily I was only half right. Way to go Pacheco.
Didn’t see or listen to the game but am glad they finished the season on a winning note. And glad the agony is over.
How did Pacheco look behind the plate? It would be great if he can be a decent catcher so if he’s an emergency catcher he can actually do a decent job. Of course Jim Tracy would probably never use him because it would “disrespect the game”. If I’m not mistaken Pacheco spent most of the year behind the plate in the Springs. And then, when he was called up, he never caught until the last game. Strange. Was that a group decision or was that simply Jim Tracy?
I didn’t see enough of the Rockies play the past two weeks but if I’m not mistaken the Rockies lost 11 out of their last 14 games. And in the 3 games they won Rosario was NOT the catcher. Not sure if that’s a coincidence or not. I watched a few innings on Tuesday night and there were a couple of times when I thought the catcher should have gone out to the mound and told White to concentrate on the batter. Yet Rosario never did. I think Iannetta probably would have.
So now they can rest… and we don’t have to look at a different lineup everyday! But still spring training can’t get here fast enough!! Good bye 2011.
