Rockies add pitchers Cabrera, Friedrich in 40-man roster
The Colorado Rockies have added minor league pitchers Edwar Cabrera and Christian Friedrich to the 40-man roster and outright outfielder Andrew Brown.
Friedrich, the Rockies’ first-round pick in 2008, was 6-10 with a 5.00 ERA at Double-A Tulsa in 2011.
Cabrera split the 2011 season between low Class-A Asheville and high Class-A Modesto. He was a combined 8-3 with a 3.34 ERA and 217 strikeouts in 167 innings.
Brown was claimed off waivers from the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this offseason.

Andrew Brown wow that was a significant acquistion right there! Why would the Rockies acquire a player only to release that same player two months into the off season when he never took a swing – I am sorry this makes no sense to me?
Arizona Fall League championship game today — 1:00 Mountain time on MLB network. I’ll have the DVR humming.
Great chance for us to see Arenado in action against some very good talent!
Is there anyone who we didn’t put on the 40 man roster that another team might want to choose with a Class 5 pick?
There’s an article on the Arizona Fall League website listing the top prospects in the AFL. Arenado is #8, and Wheeler is #21.
I also saw in MLB Trade Rumors that Arenado hired Scott Boras as his agent.
Thanks to Agbayani for the heads-up about the AFL game on MLB! Just saw Aranado hit for the first time (a homer) — man, that kid has a smooth swing! He looks small for the majors, particularly at 3rd, but then so do folks like Aaron Miles, Jamie Carrol (sp?), and Juan Pierre, and they’ve all worked out pretty well.
And I had not seen Wheeler play (live or TV) until today. Somehow I thought he was bulkier. He looks tall and sleek — I can see where the stolen bases come from; unfortunately, I’m guessing that’s where the long swing comes from too. If he can improve his contact skills just a little he’s a very promising young outfielder.
Nice boxscore for Arenado and Wheeler. They seem to be the two bright spots from our AFL team. The pitchers, not so much. It seemed like Paulsen improved as the season went on.
Now we can look for reports on our guys playing winter ball.
Aranado was chosen as AFL MVP…nice.
Rich,
Andrew Brown was not released. He was outrighted. He remains with the organization.
Frazier could go in rule 5, but it maybe hard to take because he only pitched in high A. The two seasons he was healthy he won 10- and 11 games . Could be a good swing guy for a team that doesn’t expect to win this year. Hide in the bullpen or spot start. I hear he opened some eyes in afl with his ability to pitch.
I don’t think a 6 ERA this fall opens anyones eyes in a positive way. No way a major league team can waste a spot like that on him. This kid was not supposed to be in the fall league anyway so I guess it just showed everyone that.
Is Frazier subject to being taken in the Class 5 draft?
Julian,
Yes, he is.
Era is deceiving scahill 716 weathers 818- and who told high heat he wasn’t supposed to be there. Do you work in the front office. Look at ground ball out per inning pitched. 2.45
How does a guy like Friedrich get on the 40 man with last 2 seasons he sported in Tulsa. Oh well and I hear that Cabera’s kids age is questionable. And yes Arendondo has Boras.
