The Colorado Rockies announced they and first baseman Jason Giambi have exercised their mutual option on his contract for the 2012 season, but the Rockies have declined their side of Aaron Cook’s mutual option.
Andrew Brown — a 27-year-old right-handed hitter who has played the corner infield and outfield position in the minors — hit .284 with 20 home runs and 73 RBI and as a Pacific Coast League All-Star at Memphis in 2011.

The Colorado Rockies have placed infielder Jonathan Herrera on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right index finger. The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-handed reliever Jim Miller, who was recalled along with catcher Wilin Rosario and catcher/infielder Jordan Pacheco on Tuesday.
Jordan Pacheco, Chris Nelson and Jim Miller recalled from Triple-A Colorado Springs, and Wilin Rosario and Drew Pomeranz promoted from Double-A Tulsa.

The Colorado Rockies have added two relievers to their bullpen, right-hander Greg Reynolds and left-hander J.C. Romero, with more additions expected after the Double-A and Triple-A regular seasons end Monday.
The Colorado Rockies have activated outfielder Ryan Spilborghs from the 15-day disabled list. Spilborghs, who was placed on the disabled list Aug. 6 with plantar fasciitis in his right foot, was the only immediate addition the Rockies made with expanded roster.
The Colorado Rockies have pushed back Jhoulys Chacin’s next schedule start due to illness. Meanwhile, left-hander Drew Pomeranz is recovering from an appendectomy and hopes to pitch regular season finale for Double-A Tulsa and join the Rockies later in September.
The Colorado Rockies have placed right-handed pitcher Jason Hammel on paternity leave and recalled right-hander Josh Roenicke from Triple-A Colorado Springs.
