Modesto dropped the first game of its series with Stockton when Anthony Aliotti hit a walkoff solo home run in the 12th inning. Starting pitcher Edwar Cabrera allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out seven in seven innings for the Nuts.

Shortstop Josh Rutledge and third baseman Nolan Arenado each hit solo home runs in Modesto’s 6-5 win. For both, it was the third home run in four games, and for Arenado it was his 20th home run and 120th RBI.
Corey Dickerson homered three times — his 28th, 29th and 30th — and drove in six runs in a slugfest for low Class-A Asheville. The Tourists hit eight home runs and scored 21 runs.
Tyler Matzek pitched his best game as a pro, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts for Asheville. It was the third consecutive start and fourth in his past five that Matzek pitched seven innings. In August, Matzek is 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA, 15 walks and 42 strikeouts in 34 innings.
Ryan Spilborghs had another big night on his rehab assignment at Colorado Springs, going 3-for-4 in a 23-11 Sky Sox loss. Spilborghs is 9-for-16 so far on his four-game rehab.
Starting pitcher Alex White allowed two hits, walked no one and struck out three in four shutout innings of a 2-1 Tulsa loss. In his past two rehab starts with Tulsa, White has allowed just four hits with no walks in 7 2/3 innings.
Jason Giambi helped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 7-5 win by going 3-for-3 with three RBI in his latest rehab appearance at Triple-A.
Starting pitcher Edgar Gonzalez allowed one run on two hits, walked two and struck out three in seven innings. But he was denied a when by a two-run walkoff home run off reliever Jim Miller.

While the Colorado Rockies’ top position player prospects were playing in the Futures Game, one of their best pitching prospects, Tulsa’s Christian Friedrich, put together one of his best starts of the season, allowing just one run on six hits, walking no one and striking out five in eight innings of a 3-2 loss.

In his first start at Colorado Springs since being optioned on Monday, Clayton Mortensen allowed nine runs in three innings and was on the losing end of an 18-13 slugfest Wednesday.
Starting pitcher Dan Houston threw six shutout innings, allowed five hits, walked two and struck out five in a 2-0 win at Double-A Tulsa. It was Houston’s first start since being promoted from Modesto, where he was 7-1 with a 2.53 ERA.
Dexter Fowler and Ian Stewart endured a hitless night at Triple-A Colorado Springs, combining to go 0-for-7. Fowler is 0-for-14 in his past four games but has walked six times. Stewart is 1-for-21 in his past five.
