Rockies farm roundup: Nuts drop playoff opener

Modesto dropped the first game of its series with Stockton when Anthony Aliotti hit a walkoff solo home run in the 12th inning. Starting pitcher Edwar Cabrera allowed one run on five hits, walked one and struck out seven in seven innings for the Nuts.

Shortstop Josh Rutledge and third baseman Nolan Arenado each hit solo home runs in Modesto’s 6-5 win. For both, it was the third home run in four games, and for Arenado it was his 20th home run and 120th RBI.

Tyler Matzek pitched his best game as a pro, allowing one run on two hits with two walks and 13 strikeouts for Asheville. It was the third consecutive start and fourth in his past five that Matzek pitched seven innings. In August, Matzek is 3-1 with a 2.65 ERA, 15 walks and 42 strikeouts in 34 innings.
