The Colorado Rockies have added two relievers to their bullpen, right-hander Greg Reynolds and left-hander J.C. Romero, with more additions expected after the Double-A and Triple-A regular seasons end Monday.
To make room on the roster, for Huston Street and Matt Lindsrom, the Colorado Rockies optioned relievers Josh Roenicke and J.C. Romero to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
The Rockies scored six runs in the first, one in the second and took an eight-run lead into the ninth but needed closer Rafael Betancourt to get the final two outs in a 9-5 win over the Houston Astros.
The Colorado Rockies and, again, Jason Giambi in particular made a ninth-inning charge, but Jhoulys Chacin lasted a season-low four innings in a 6-5 loss to the Florida Marlins.
J.C. Romero, 35, joins the Colorado Rockies bullpen after being released by the New York Yankees last week. He started the season with the Philadelphia Phillies and was 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA in 24 games before being released in June. Since then he has pitched in the minors for the Washington Nationals and the Yankees.
