Starting pitcher Chad Bettis allowed six hits, walked three and struck out nine in 6 2/3 innings to help the Nuts win the second game of their playoff series. Bettis wasn’t involved in the decision, though, when the Nuts broke a scoreless tie after he exited.
Modesto’s Edwar Cabrera extended his organization strikeout lead by striking out eight in 6 2/3 innings Wednesday. Cabrera, who was not involved in the decision in a 5-4 Nuts walkoff, has struck out 143 in 110 1/3 innings at two levels and is 1-0 with a 2.84 ERA since being promoted to Modesto.
Colorado Springs starter Billy Buckner allowed one hit in seven shutout innings of a 2-1 extra-inning loss Thursday. Buckner, who also pitched five shutout innings on June 19, walked two and struck out five.
